Moshing Should Not Be Allowed At Rammstein's US Shows
From the outset of this blog entry I will acknowledge, that I realize I may not win new friends by making such a bold statement. But there are several reasons for me taking this position, and I hope my thoughts will at least be considered by those interested in this topic.
Put simply, I don't feel that moshing has a place anymore at this band's shows (at least not the ones that may happen here in the States) - and here are the main reasons why:
1. Moshing takes something away from the overall quality of a show, in terms of the atmosphere.
2. Moshing is a violent, destructive and disruptive way of attempting to get attention from others.
3. Moshing is disrespectful, both to the band putting on a performance and to other concertgoers who may be distracted by the activity.
4. Moshing can be dangerous, and participating in a moshfight only conveys the message that you are thoughtless, inconsiderate and not too interested in watching the show you paid to come see.
Tough stance? Maybe... but when considering all of the factors involved (especially when talking about this group), I think eliminating the moshpit altogether would just be the right thing to do.
Let's also keep in mind the following:
-Rammstein has not been here since 2000, or 2001 - do we really want to be remembered by them (from any future shows) as having been animal-like savages in the audience? I know I sure as hell don't!
-Some folks here may regard Rammstein as 'just another Eurotrash dirtbag group' - as fans we feel differently and it is up to us to prove that, during any future shows done in this neck of the woods.
-Moshing was probably created by a wave of restless, misfit adolescent males, looking for a way to release their pent-up frustrations while getting some attention at the same time. But if you are over eighteen, you should have better ways of handling your unruly hormone surges without stealing attention away from the set.
-A lot of struggling bands, in their early days, will tolerate bad behavior during concerts because they are just starting out. Clearly Rammstein is no longer in this category... and at least on this side of the Atlantic, I feel they deserve better from their fans.
I will sum it all up like this: If and when Rammstein does come here again, I want the new shows to be good - for everyone, on BOTH sides of the stage. I want to feel a part of a respectful and classy group of fans, because we know this band has earned the right to have caviar with their champagne. I want the shows to be a reflection of how we see and feel about them; I want them to be impressed with their American followers, and leave our country feeling convinced it was worth their time to come here. I do understand that this is a rock/metal group; but there is a way to rock out and have fun without being destructive and without taking anything away.
As Americans, we often like to pride ourselves as being the best in terms of our customs and lifestyles. I certainly hope that, should Rammstein revisit us someday, we will put our best feet forward, and let our best love shine through.
Because they deserve nothing less.
If the mindset is right, then all of us (them included) can look forward to a wonderful and special experience.
