Could someone please tell me the true meaning of this song? Everybody loves it but I just don't get it. I guess I am pretty thick. Could somebody that really knows help me out with what she is trying to say in this song?
Actually my marriage depends on it if you care to know. My wife insists on being able to stay in touch with her ex-boyfriend. Is this song in her mind about him and her, would you say?

Thanks in advance to the kind person that can give me at least a brief description of the point or crux of the songs meaning.
