Rammstein and America
Sometimes I will read things here and there, "Rammstein is anti-American". Again, like a lot of things that are printed about this group, this is complete and utter nonsense. They did a song called "Amerika" on one of their earlier albums... and rather than take some time to really understand what it means, people rushed to judgment about it and labelled them anti-American. I don't believe this is true.
First of all - they are from a former communist state. You always have to keep this in mind if you're going to interpret the songs correctly. Second - just because a nonAmerican doesn't love everything we may do around the world doesn't automatically mean that they hate us. The song in question is basically about globalization; my interpretation of it is 'Everywhere you look, there's America'. Isn't that a true statement, though? What's wrong with them pointing that out in a song? Maybe that's just what they see - and a lot of other people do, too!
